The St. Louis Blues looked to continue their 7 game winning streak and strengthen their hold on the top of the standings in Glendale tonight, but the Coyotes had other ideas. The Blues jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the first period and seemed to be ready to put the game on cruise control. However after the first period the Blues managed only 13 shots on goal, a very lackluster showing from this high flying offense. The real shock for St. Louis came in the third period where Goalie Brian Elliot gave up 4 goals on just 13 shots.
Asked afterwards if Elliot should be looking over his shoulder at Jake Allen Coach Ken Hitchcock answered “No, no I don’t think so. Brian is our guy, everyone has a bad night. We just didn’t play our style of play tonight and the final score reflects that.”
Brian Elliot refused to speak to the media after the game.
Rookie GM Jeff Copeland when asked about Elliot said “Brian was upset and asked if he could skip the media session and Ken and I decided to let him do that.” When asked whether showed a weakness in the Blues he said “He’s our guy. We think we can win a cup with Brian in the net. I mean the guy is second in the league with 32 wins, I don’t know what more we can ask from him. I’m actually more disappointed in our offense tonight. Thirteen shots on goal in the second and third periods… that’s just not acceptable.”
