Two teams that have surprised the SSG world by keeping themselves in the post-season discussion as the trade deadline approaches are the Colorado Rockies and Cincinnati Reds. The teams are tied 3 games back of San Diego for the second Wild Card spot in the NL as they prepare for tonight’s game featuring a matchup between recently called up rookie Eddie Butler (0-5, 5.59 ERA) and veteran Mike Leake (8-4, 3.25 ERA). The decision to be buyers or sellers may even depend on the result of this series. Are either or both teams fooling themselves with dreams of the post-season? Both the Reds and Rockies have stayed competitive despite big losses. Billy Hamilton has been missing with a broken leg for the Reds while the Rockies have operated without Carlos Gonzales who was dealt to the Mets earlier in the year. Stepping up, however, have been Joey Votto for the Reds and Nolan Arenado for the Rockies, each having MVP like seasons. With all the excitement though, we may be looking at two on Saturday as nasty weather (OOTP patch) is rolling into the Denver area tonight.
