Flames get must win vs Sharks to keep hopes alive in crazy West.

Calgary, Alberta – (AP)   While all six teams in the Central Division battle it out for five playoff spots the Flames and Oilers are doing their best to make sure there is still a race for the other three spots in the weaker Pacific Division.

The Flames played pretty much a do or die game at home against the team they are chasing, San Jose, last night and pulled out the 3-1 victory on the strength of goals by Jiri Hudler, Sean Monahan, and Johnny Gaudreau .  Had they lost the gap would have widened to 12 pts between the teams with only 16 games remaining.

The recently struggling Flames have won two straight now, including a shutout of the high-powered Penguins on Saturday.  With Monahan, Frolik, and Dupuis all back form injury hopefully Calgary has righted the ship just in time to make a race of it come April.  Dougy Hamilton will also return in 2 weeks to sure up things at the blue line.
