After a disappointing season that led to the Titans having the number 1 pick in the draft, rumors are flying that the Titans are looking to move starting quarterback Marcus Mariota. Calls to the player’s agent were not returned and GM Jeff Copeland did little to dispel those rumors with his statement when questioned leaving the team’s facility. “We are looking at all options” was all Copeland said when questioned by reporters.
Teams that are rumored to be interested in Mariota are the Rams, Redtails and the Ravens. Although those teams refused to comment on their association with a possible trade for Mariota.
Mariota has played and started in 27 games in SSG NFL play completing 56.2% of his passes for 5387 yards. He has thrown 28 Touchdowns and 48 interceptions. Mariota missed 5 games this past season with a head injury.
This offseason has seen major changes to the Titans’ coaching staff, with the only Steve Watterson being retained in his role as Strength Coach. New Head Coach Harris Flynn has brought Offensive Coordinator Devin Lunderville on board to implement a West Coast offensive scheme, a scheme many pundits felt would be better suited for Mariota’s style. With these rumors swirling though, one has to wonder if the current coaching staff has confidence that Mariota can thrive in such a system.
