The New York Mets have surprised many this year by finding themselves in a Wild Card Race with the Dodgers, Giants and Reds. Things really changed for the Mets at the All Star Break. Going into the break they found themselves with a 43-45 record and not looking like a playoff team. Since then this team has gone 32-19 to put themselves in contention for a Wild Card with 21 games left.
They host the Cincinnati Reds for a four game series in New York starting tomorrow. This is a crucial series as the Red’s find themselves 3 1/2 games back of the Mets. The Met’s will have Ynoa, Harvey and DeGrom all starting in this series to give them a great opportunity to take the series. However they have some key injuries to the likes of Castro, Reyes and Aplin that have been a major reason for this run they have managed to maintain. GM Kevin Sweeney will have to shuffle his lineup and will certainly be hoping that they get solid outings from their starting pitchers. The expanded roster has come at the perfect time for the Mets, you could see prospect Shortstop Milton Ramos see some playing time with Castro out for at least 2 weeks.
