SSG Baseball Game of the Week

SSG Baseball Game of the Week

The talk on the SSG Baseball channel for the past two weeks would be who would take the second NL wild card the prize being a trip to LA to face the 2015 champion Dodgers for a place in the NLDS.

San Francisco held on and held on but finally fell away from the chasing pack leaving the Reds and the Mets duking it out for the 5th NL playoff spot.

We come down to the final weekend of the season, after 161 games both have records of 84-77, both have gone 5-5 in the last ten games and both have lost the first two games of their final series games.

Both are the road for the final weekend of series, again both are facing divisional opponents, the Mets are in Philadelphia where the Phillies won games 2 and 3; 6-3 and 1-0 (after a brilliant performance from Matt Harvey but an even better one by Jonathan Pettibone) while the Reds face Divisional Champions Cubs who won games 5-2 and 3-2.

Probable Starters

Jacob deGrom starts for the Mets, a 9-7 record and a 3.92 ERA, looks impressive but has the worst ERA of the Mets impressive rotation that ranks 4th in the senior circuit. He is coming off a rocky start against Atlanta on September 26th where he lasted 4 innings allowing 6 runs in an 8-6 loss. He faces off against Trevor Bauer who looks to finish the season with a win to improve from 11-13.

The Reds trot out Mike Leake who has been unlucky with his win loss record if you consider his 3.62 ERA, Leake is 5-12 for the season but did pitch well last time out in a loss to the Red Sox, he went 7 innings allowing just one run, the bullpen imploded and Boston win 5-4. The Cubs have Ivan Pineyro on the mound, again a pitcher with a losing record for the season (2-5) but a nice ERA (3.36) for the season.

Dependant on how the games finish today we could see a one game sudden death playoff to decide who faces off against the Dodgers in LA for the wild card, a thrilling end to the 162-game season for Baseball fans (maybe not so for the respective GM’s of the Reds and Mets).

Both games will be broadcast play by play on ssglivegames slack channel at around 1PM ET
